Do You Offer Children’s Classes?
The Branford Art Studio offers an adult curriculum; however, we do accept some young adults under 18 of at least high school age who need to put together a portfolio for admission to art schools or who show marked interest in drawing or painting.
Young adults under 18 must demonstrate focus and discipline in order to attend an adult class, and are accepted on a case by case basis. Acceptance is based on a review of the student’s work to date.
The Branford Art Studio offers a special program for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in preparing a portfolio for college.
Please contact Marc Anthony Massaro (203) 488-2787 for more information.
How many instructors are there?
Marc Massaro is our full-time instructor who teaches drawing, oil & acrylic painting and sculpture. We also have visiting instructors who teach acrylic painting, colored pencil drawing, watercolor painting, beading, jewelry making, cartooning, calligraphy and more. Learn more on our About Us page.
Will I get individual instruction in a group class?
Absolutely! All our art instructors spend time with each student to give advice and guidance, or to demonstrate various techniques.
We also offer video consultations for those who need help outside of the art studio.
Do you offer private art instruction?
No. Private art instruction puts an undue amount of pressure on the student without any of the benefits from a group situation.
As an option to private instruction, students may opt to book a 30-minute Zoom consultation.
I just want to paint, why do I need a drawing class?
All artwork, architecture, clothing, jewelry, animation, and sculpture starts with a strong foundation in drawing. Drawing is the genesis of the idea and the place to plan and troubleshoot. Art students must consider elements such as size, scope, angle, perspective, color, style, and format before moving on to another medium.
What are the benefits of a Color Theory class?
Color theory answers the questions of how to make a color darker, lighter, or brighter, or how to choose which colors go well together. It also addresses how to evaluate colors that don’t look right together, as well as what the difference between translucent and opaque paints. Our Color Theory class helps students understand what paint names mean, as well as many more useful tools for creating colorful art.
What if I missed the start of the course? Can I still register?
Late registration is always available. The time missed can be made up by arrangement with the instructor, or the course can be prorated.
Students who register after the starting date must pay full tuition. Tuitions are not pro-rated.
What if I have to drop out of a course?
If the course has not already begun, we will give you a full refund for the course enrollment fee. Students may also elect to receive a credit that may be used towards another art course at a later date.
What is your Cancellation Policy?
Students will be notified and full tuition will be refunded if a course is cancelled. Students may also request a credit toward another course. Cancellations caused by insufficient enrollment is the decision of the instructor. Students will be notified in advance in the event of a course cancellation.
Students withdrawing from a course before it begins will receive a tuition refund in full. Students withdrawing from a course after the first session has begun will be refunded the tuition less than a $25 registration fee.
Students who withdraw from an art course after the 2nd session will receive a pro-rated tuition credit. The credit will be less the tuition of the total of sessions that have occurred. Course withdrawal must be approved by the instructor prior to the refund process.
